Minnesota residents accused of crimes may not know what to expect after an arrest. Fortunately, a criminal defense attorney may be able to assist those in this situation by explaining the charges they face and representing their rights and interests in court. One man is now likely working with an attorney after being charged for alleged drug crimes.
According to police, an investigation related to the possession and distribution of drugs was recently conducted by the Austin Police Department and the Southeast Minnesota Violent Crime Enforcement Team. Authorities stated that the man delivered methamphetamine to a confidential informant in May of 2017. They also believe that the drugs were kept at his home, which is located within one block of a local elementary school.
In November of 2017, the man was charged with second degree sale of methamphetamine in a school zone and third degree possession of methamphetamine in a school zone. Reports indicate that the man is now pleading guilty for possessing these drugs. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
Those charged with drug crimes may have multiple legal options available to them. By consulting an experienced Minnesota criminal defense attorney, an individual may be able to more easily determine the best course of action for his or her particular situation. In addition to examining the case, an attorney could help to build a strong defense to present before court and work toward ensuring a person’s legal rights are protected. Anyone facing similar charges could contact an attorney for more information and assistance.
