Anyone can have a disagreement with someone for a variety of different reasons. These disagreements, however, rarely result in violence. Unfortunately, a man in Minnesota is now accused of assault after a conflict but is suspected of being involved in a string of other incidents.
The encounter that led to the man’s arrest happened on a day in early January. According to reports, an employee at a business claims that a customer began swearing at her. Another customer reportedly intervened, claiming that they should contact the police. He claims that the other customer attempted to take his phone away to prevent him from making the call.
The man now facing criminal charges allegedly punched the other customer and attempted to strike him with a metal pipe that he removed from his vehicle, but he reportedly slipped on the ice. The employee is said to have recorded the license plate of his vehicle as he left the scene. He was taken into custody two weeks later after police found say they him driving the vehicle. The employee reportedly identified him in a lineup.
In addition to the assault charges stemming from this incident, police believe that the man is responsible for a string of assaults involving a man in a scarf or ski mask slapping victims or threatening them. It is unclear how police connected him to those incidents. In all cases involving accusations of crimes, there must be sufficient evidence to meet the high burden of proof required by the court for a guilty verdict. An experienced criminal defense attorney can help the Minnesota man shift through the evidence against him and determine the most appropriate response to the allegations.
