Those who have never been in a car crash may be unfamiliar with the effect that being involved in such an incident can have. While the physical implications are clear, some people are also affected emotionally — perhaps in ways that may manifest similarly to people who are under the influence of alcohol. Unfortunately, a woman in Minnesota has recently been charged with driving under the influence, DUI, following a recent fiery crash.
The incident happened one afternoon on a day in late July. According to reports, a car driven by a 55-year-old woman ran off of a Minnesota road. A woman who lives near the accident reportedly heard it and sent her husband to help while she called 911.
Reports claim that the man was able to pull the driver from the car before it became fully engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported. However, the woman was arrested, charged with third-degree driving while intoxicated.
It is unclear what prompted police officers to suspect the woman of DUI or what her blood alcohol content was at the time of the accident. However, an accident such as this could easily cause confusion and many other symptoms often associated with being under the influence of alcohol. Regardless of the accusations against the woman, she is presumed innocent under the law unless sufficient evidence is provided to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Because many people in Minnesota facing criminal charges are unfamiliar with the justice system, they may feel unprepared to adequately respond to the accusations they face. As a result, they often turn to an experienced criminal defense attorney to help them.
