It is an unfortunate fact of life that car accidents happen every day in Minnesota. Often, even the safest drivers can become involved in a collision. Unfortunately, a man was recently arrested after police say he was drunk driving at the time of a motor vehicle accident.
The incident happened on a day in March. According to reports, a sports utility vehicle allegedly struck an Uber car while in an intersection. The collision is said to have sent the Uber vehicle into an electrical box.
The driver of the Uber car, a 48-year-old man, died three days after the accident. Though police reportedly suspected the 42-year-old driver of the SUV of being under the influence of alcohol and driving without a driver’s license, he was recently released from jail without any charges being filed, because he can only be held a certain period of time without being charged. Reports indicate that criminal charges could still be filed.
Those suspected of committing a crime in Minnesota, including drunk driving, often lack confidence in their ability to make informed decisions. Fortunately, there are experienced criminal defense attorneys who can advise those suspected or accused of a crime, from the earliest stages. Even if charges have not been filed, an attorney can advise a suspect through questioning, making sure he or she is aware of the implications of the information provided. Often, such a professional is the best way to ensure that someone is looking out for a defendant’s best interests, including recognizing and responding to unlawful treatment.
