When someone commits serious traffic offenses, exacting consequences may be enforced. One potential ramification of such offenses is a driver’s license revocation. A Minnesota woman has recently been accused of several charges related to a crash she was allegedly involved in after having her license previously suspended.
Authorities claim the woman fatally struck a police officer with her car while he was removing debris from the side of the highway. An officer reportedly gave the woman a field sobriety test following the crash, which led police to believe she was under the influence of a controlled substance. Police also believe that the woman was using her cell phone at the time of the incident, based on an examination of her call and text logs.
The Department of Public Safety reported that at the time of the collision, the woman’s driver’s license had been canceled due to multiple previous infractions. In relation to the officer’s death, she has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide. The woman has since been jailed and is awaiting her first court appearance. Reports indicate that she has yet to obtain legal counsel.
Whether facing a driver’s license revocation or any other criminal charges, a person could greatly benefit from retaining the services of an experienced Minnesota criminal defense attorney. An attorney could work to provide a strong defense to present before the court as well as work toward ensuring a person’s legal rights are upheld. Additionally, an attorney could provide guidance and support throughout any related legal proceedings.
