In the United States, people are protected from unreasonable searches and seizures. If law enforcement officials suspect a crime is occurring at a private location, they may choose to seek a search warrant depending on the circumstances of the situation. In fact, a man in Minnesota who now faces a drug charge is likely wondering what led police to seek such a warrant against a home he reportedly owns.

The search that led to the man’s arrest reportedly happened on a day in late January. Though reports indicate that law enforcement officials executed a warrant on a home owned by the man, it is unclear what prompted the search. Police say they discovered over 5.5 pounds of methamphetamine in the home. The man is said to have been at the residence at the time of the search.

Additionally, police claim they discovered several cellphones and surveillance equipment in the home. There was allegedly a spare tire in the garage that had been cut open in which police believe the 40-year-old man hid drugs. The man reportedly admitted to obtaining 140 pounds of methamphetamine from out-of-the state. He allegedly told police that he paid $3,500 for the drugs and sold them for $5,000 per pound.

As a result of the search, the man is now facing a felony drug charge. Unfortunately, those with relatively little legal experience often are unsure of their rights when facing such accusations. For example, they may be unable to recognize unlawful treatment and take appropriate action. Fortunately, there are experienced criminal defense attorneys in Minnesota who can carefully examine the details of a case and respond as necessary.
