Many people who are questioned by authority figures such as police officers often become nervous during the encounter and may not fully understand the implications of the information they provide. Often, those who may be suspected of a crime are unaware of their rights when questioned. However, an experienced attorney can help. Several people who were recently arrested following a Minnesota traffic stop and now face drug charges may decide to seek such help.

Police say that the traffic stop occurred on a day in late May. According to reports, police suspected that the driver was driving without a license. Police claim that after the stop was initiated, the 29-year-old male driver admitted to swallowing a quantity of meth. A search of the vehicle allegedly resulted in the discovery of 18 grams of meth.

The driver reportedly told officers that he and two other people — including a female passenger in the vehicle who reportedly already had a warrant out for her arrest — dealt drugs in the region. The information is said to have ultimately led to the search of an apartment where police said they discovered drug paraphernalia and a package of meth. The driver and a second man recently appeared in court on charges of selling meth. Both the passenger in the vehicle and a 20-year-old woman at the apartment were also taken into custody.

The charges against the two men carry with them a maximum of 30 years in prison if convicted of the drug charges filed against them. Because of the severe consequences associated with a conviction, the Minnesota men may want the help of an experienced criminal defense attorney. Such a professional can advise them of their options as well as take appropriate action if the men are the victims of unlawful actions on the part of law enforcement officials.
