Almost everyone has been in a unfamiliar neighborhood, unsure which house is the one for which they are looking, potentially causing a person to approach the wrong residence. Unfortunately, police say that a man in Minnesota now faces criminal charges because he illegally entered a private residence. He could spend 20 years in prison if convicted of the charges against him.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of a day in March. A resident claims she woke in the middle of the night and sensed “something was wrong.” When she exited her bedroom, she claims she saw a 21-year-old man. He allegedly told her that he had eaten some chicken nuggets and gotten something to drink.
Police say that when they arrived, the man was exiting the home. He was taken into custody and charged with felony burglary. Reports claim that he was able to enter the home through an unlocked door into the home’s garage.
Many details of the case are unclear, including whether the man’s entering the house — if it occurred as claimed — was the result of a mistake. Because of the serious consequences of a conviction of the criminal charges against him, the young man could likely benefit from having an experienced defense attorney fighting on his behalf. In the coming weeks and months, the young Minnesota man will have multiple critical decisions that he must make, including whether to fight the criminal charges in court or accept a plea deal for a reduced charge or sentence, if offered.
