Bio

Mr. Bauer has a criminal law practice representing individuals in state and federal courts. His experience with defense includes numerous homicides, drug possession and sale, criminal sexual conduct, complex white-collar crimes, child abuse and assaults. In addition to major felony cases, Mr. Bauer has a focused emphases on DWIs.

His cases include: State v. Williams, murder one (battered woman syndrome): State v. Hanson, assault one, kidnapping, partial acquittal (court trial on insanity defense, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Vietnam vet, hostage-taking at the Minneapolis airport); In re: TW, arson one dismissal (Juvenile defendant who confessed to the arson of the $90 million Norwest Bank/Donaldson’s fire, the largest arson case in Minnesota history); United States v. Michaeloff, federal white collar crime, (Budget Travel multimillion dollar bust-out scheme); State v. Hennessey, forgery, DWI (dismissal of felony in which postal worker allegedly forged and filed his own death certificate with the court to escape multiple DWI convictions); 90 plus count charges in Black Tie Limousine case (federal money laundering allegations, largest outcall prostitution enterprise in the state as reported by the press). His practice includes precharge representation of state and federal criminal matters with the purpose of stopping the charging process or eliminating charges in advance. Mr. Bauer has been a speaker on criminal law topics for The Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association, The Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice and at the Criminal Justice Institute and the Minnesota Continuing Education Institute. He was an instructor at the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Police School and an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law and lecturer at Hamline University College of Law. He is a graduate of the technical training courses as a certified operator of the Intoxilyzer (Minnesota's alcohol testing device) and enjoys attacking the credibility of these very fallible machines. He has extensive training on Minnesota's new alcohol testing machine, DATAMASTER.
